Bring Splendour home say organisers

Goldfrapp Organisers of Splendour In The Grass have put out the call to bring the Aussie music festival back to Byron Bay in 2011.

In a post on the festival's website, organisers are calling for festival goers to help return the event to the Byron Bay shire by posting submissions to the NSW Department of Planning.

"We have been working hard since 2006 to gain approval for our land as a permanent sustainable cultural event venue and Splendour’s permanent home," a statement from organisers said.

"As much as we love Woodford and our friends there, it is not our permanent home. Our old home in Byron, Belongil Fields, is being rezoned for residential development."

Organisers have listed the following reasons why Splendour should be returned to Byron Shire:

* It’s ours so we can continually improve it to make your Splendour experience more comfortable and memorable. * It’s bigger – 660 acres as opposed to Woodford’s 400 acres and Belongil Fields’ 50 acres. * It’s indescribably beautiful. * It’s accessible – just off the highway 20 minutes north of Byron and 20 minutes south of the Gold Coast airport. * The road systems are good. * It’s in the beautiful Byron shire, with beaches, restaurants and markets to explore.

The festival was to be held at the North Byron Parklands site at Yelgun in Bryon Shire in July this year, however as it is undergoing a comprehensive approval process with the NSW Department of Planning, the festival was held at Woodford in Queensland – home of the Woodfood Folk Festival.
