John Butler has started work on his next studio album with a fresh line-up in tow.

Butler has named Melbourne musician Nicky Bomba, and Sydney musician Byron Luiters as the new members of his Aussie outfit The John Butler Trio (JBT).

The refreshed JBT has already begun work on a new studio album after heading into the studio earlier this month.

“Over the last twelve years of the JBT, I have been blessed with some amazing individuals,” Butler said.

“All have left their legacy and have raised the musical bar of the band. With any new incarnation it has always been an honour and challenge to meet the benchmark the band has achieved artistically and take it to the next level. It’s great to be playing with Nicky again and Byron brings a whole new level of melody, funk and Mojo to the Trio. Very exciting times.”

Butler, Bomba and Luiters are expected to continue recording of the as yet titled new album until early next month.

A taste of the new John Butler Trio album is expected later this year.

Meanwhile, next month Butler will jet off overseas for a series of tours.

While overseas, Butler will play the Montreal Jazz Festival, Rothbury Music festival in Michigan and The Mile High Festival in Denver.

The singer will also play headline shows in Toronto, LA and a hand full of shows in Europe.

Butler will return home in August to take part in the Cannot Buy My Soul Concert which is part of the Queensland Music Festival.

He will then head to Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory to participate in the Garma Festival of Traditional Culture which takes place from August 7th until 11th.
