The Hives are set to headline next year’s Australian music festival, Sunset Sounds festival.

The Swedish outfit will play the two day Brisbane festival in January 2009.

The Hives will play Wednesday January 7 alongside The Cat Empire, The Kooks, Tegan and Sara, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Gomez, Soko, and Yves Klein Blue.

Franz Ferdinand will headline the second day of the festival, Thursday January 8.

The Scottish band will be joined by The Grates, Santogold, Donavon Franekreiter, Ash Grunwald, CW Stoneking, and I Heart Hiroshima.

The headlining spot with Sunset Sounds comes just weeks after The Hives were named as part of this year’s Falls Festival line-up.

Sunset Sounds combining the Garden Stage in the Botanic Gardens and the Riverstage in the City Gardens, Brisbane.
