Sparrow leads indie race for Aussie music awards

Sam Sparro, The Presets, The Living End, and Angus and Julia are the biggest indie music winners of nominations in the lead up to Australia’s music awards, the ARIAs.

In his debut year as a nominee, the Sydney singer Sparro has scored five nominations for his self-titled debut album.

Sparro is in the running for Single of The Year for Black and Gold, Best Male Artist, Best Pop Release, Breakthrough Artist - Album and Breakthrough Artist - Single.

The Presets have been handed four nominations for their second album, Apocalypso and single My People.

The duo have been given the nod in the Best Group, Best Dance Release, Single Of The Year and Album of The Year categories.

Brother and sister outfit Angus and Julia Stone have also scored four nominations for their debut album, A Book Like This.

The pair will be up against The Presets in Best Group category and Sparrow in both Breakthrough Artist - Album and Breakthrough Artist - Single. They are also nominated in the Best Blues and Roots Album category.

The Living End has also secured four ARIA award nominations.

The Melbourne trio will join the Best Group, Best Rock Album, Album Of The Year and Single Of The Year categories for their latest album, White Noise.

Winners will be announced on Sunday, 19 October, 2008. The awards will be broadcast on Network Ten from 7.30pm.
