Little Birdy go back to basics

Commenting on the follow up to their 2006 album, Hollywood, Little Birdy singer Katy Steele said work on the new album is tracking well.
“Things are thought out, but never analyzed. We are maintaining the innocence we once had. The album so far is about a lot of different things. I seem to have a constant theme that has existed for all of our albums which is a feeling of longing. But this record has lots of elements we haven’t touched .., mainly a celebration of life. A celebration of what is around us and appreciating it. A simple concept and message that I think Lennon summed up so well in ‘love’,” she said in a post to the band’s myspace.com/littlebirdy page.
“Our album is also about the simplicity and soul of a song. The honest part that sometimes is hard to find. It’s about knowing where we are going, and celebrating that path we are creating. So we have been holed up for over two months. Creating soundscapes - putting unnecessary amounts of reverb on drum tracks and controlling our urges of sudden madness!”
As well as recording new songs, feeling comfortable playing songs together as a band is also an important part of the process, according to Steele.
“Usually we’ll find if a song has legs or not after we have played it all together. Sometimes this is hard for me to deal with, cause I do, like any weirdo artist, have attachments to things I have brought in. Luckily on this album though, I think I have matured enough to not make it personal, I can finally see that it’s all about the final picture and shouldn’t honesty in a relationship always be appreciated and respected???!!!” she said.
In January this year, the Perth band shook off rumours of a split with news they were working on their as yet titled third album.
Steele sparked rumours of a split late last year when she jetted off on a number of solo international shows.
