Coldplay’s new album has not only topped Australia’s music charts, it has gone platinum just days after its release.

The UK band released their fourth album, ‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends’ last week.

The album marks Coldplay’s third number one album debut in Australia. Their previous two albums, X&Y and Rush of Blood To The Head, also reaching the top spot in their first week.

The first singles off the album, Viva La Vida and Violet Hill have also crept up the single charts, sitting at number six and number 9 respectively.

Viva La Vida is Coldplay’s second highest charting single ever in Australia. The first single was, Yellow of the band’s Paracuttes album which reached number five in 2001.
