Silverchair’s Johns makes history

The Silverchair frontman took home awards for song of the year for Straight Lines (co-written by Presets Julian Hamilton), as well as most played Australian work for the band’s latest album, Young Modern.
Johns also took home the songwriter of the year award for the third time. The Newcastle-based singer won the award previously in 2003 for his work on the Silverchair album, Diorama and in 1995 when he shared the honour with bandmate, Ben Gillies.
The win makes Johns the first artist in Australian music history to take home songwriter of the year three times.
Other winners on the night were Sally Seltmann aka New Buffalo who was named the breakthrough songwriter of the year for the single, 1,2,3,4.
John Butler Trio singer John Butler took home the award for Blues and Roots work of the year for the single, Good Excuse.
While another trio Wolfmother took home the Most played Australian work overseas for their single, Woman.
