Coldplay will release the first single off their new album as a free download from today.

The UK band will release the single, Violet Hill, from www.coldplay.com for a week starting today (April 29).

Violet Hill has been lifted from the band’s upcoming new album, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends.

Coldplay’s new album will be available as a conventional paid-for release on May 6.

The band will perform the new single at two free shows in at London’s Brixton Academy on June 16 and one in New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 23.

Coldplay’s new album “Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends” is released on Saturday June 14.

The album comprises of 10 new tracks produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs.
