Cut Copy recruits fourth for live shows

Cut Copy plans to add a fourth member to their line-up.

The Melbourne band will return to their original four-piece line up though at this stage for only their live shows, guitarist Tim Hoey said.

“I think a lot of the material on the new record really requires the fourth person to play live. We were originally a four-piece when we started out and it takes a bit of the pressure off having someone else three,” Hoey told elevenmagazine.com.au.

On previous tours Cut Copy has recruited Hungry Ghosts member JP Shilo to help out.

“JP is continuing with us until the V Festival and then we’ve got someone else coming on board,” Hoey said.

“It just frees it up a bit more and we don’t have to rely so much on the machines to play. It’s kind of the nature of the music where we have to at times but where we can we want to try and be playing it as much of it live as possible.”

Despite adding a fourth touring member, Hoey said there were no plans to become a four-piece full time.

“I don’t know if its more of a permanent thing, in the next 12 months certainly we’ve got a friend coming on board to play with us but I think its more of a live thing and we’ll just see what happens at the end of the tour.”

Cut Copy will release their new album, In Ghost Colours, this weekend (March 22).
