Silverchair has denied front man Daniel Johns is set to leave the group to go solo.

While Johns is allegedly working with Sleepy Jackson front man Luke Steele on a new project, representatives for the Newcastle band denied the collaboration meant Silverchair would split.

“Let’s not let this rumour go too far, before it starts Daniel is not quitting or planning on leaving his mates in Silverchair. He is writing and recording songs for a project that has not been confirmed with who or if with any other musicians this maybe with,” a post on Silverchair’s myspace page said.

Another rumour doing the rounds is that Silverchair is planning to hire a new guitarist is also untrue.

Reports that Silverchair are also about to jet off to the US for a tour this month as well as begin work on a new album have also been down played.

“This will not be happening for a very long time. The band are staying around Australia taking a break and putting together the works for their next plan. Some rumours of a new album in 2008 have been circulating…this is NOT confirmed in any way from the band or their management. Although, the band are looking forward to recording the next album soon.

Late last month Silverchair released the latest single off their Young Modern album, Mind Reader.
