John Butler has decided to lop off his dreadlocks after more than 10 years.

The front man with Western Australian outfit the John Butler Trio decided to cut off his trademark locks because it was time for a change.

“Yes I finally cut them and it feels great! Been thinking about it for awhile and just had to do it. Although I like dreadlocks, they just weren’t what I was feeling anymore and I needed a change,” Butler said.

“Thirteen years with the same hairstyle gets a bit boring. Feels a bit weird to be actually telling you about it cause it such a personal decision, but I know some of you were attached to them for what ever reason and I thought I’d tell you from the horses mouth (mine that is) and then you wouldn’t have to speculate. Anyway I bloody love it!”

Butler and his band are currently on an Australian summer festival tour. Next month the trio will perform at Womadelaide, CMC Rocks the Snowys, and the East Coast Blues & Roots Music festival.

Following their March tour dates, the band will jet off to Japan and the United States for an extensive tour ending in July.
