Panics win big at WAMis

The Panics took home the Most Popular Act, beating the likes of Eskimo Joe, Sugar Army and the John Butler Trio.
The Panics also took out the Most Commercial Pop Act WAMi Award, for their latest album ’Cruel Guards’.
Despite having six WAMi nominations, Birds of Tokyo managed only two awards – though they should still be happy as they were the night’s big ones.
The band came up trumps in the Most Popular Album category for their debut, Day One.
Birds of Tokyo stole the limelight from John Butler Trio (Grand National), The Panics (Cruel Guards), Red Jezebel (How I Learnt to Stop Worrying).
They also took out the Best Rock Act WAMi Award.
Gyroscope took out the most popular single/EP with their track, Snakeskin.
The Most Promising New Act WAMi Award, which is voted by the industry, was awarded to Abbe May and the Rockin Pneumonia, while Harlequin League won the Public Voted Favourite Newcomer Award.
Karnivool picked up two WAMi’s for Most Popular Live Act and Best Hard Rock/Metal
Pendulum picked up the gong for Best Electronic Producer and Downsyde for the fifth time since 2003, winners of the Best Urban Hip Hop Act!
The Pigram Brothers, one of WA’s most celebrated indigenous artists were winners of the Best Indigenous Act.
