Pictures back in the frame

The Pictures have put the finishing touches on their second record.

The Melbourne duo of Luke Thomas and Davey Lane headed to Brisbane late last month to mix the untiled new album with Jeff Lovejoy.

“We’ve settled on the 12 tunes that will go on the record and a vague order. Some tracks have morphed into others, all for the better,” the band’s singer Davey Lane said.

While the album is in its final stages, the band will tout for a new record deal. The band released their debut, Pieces of Eight, through Stomp.

“Shock have expressed a passing interest but none of them cats have taken us out to lunch yet so my arm’s yet to be twisted,” Lane added.

See below for tracklisting for The Pictures’ new album.

1. I Am The Day (formerly Fix Me Up, the title was crying out for me to re-assess, so I did.)
2. ????? (ain’t got no title yet, but our psych-funk odyssey, whatever that is)
3. Can You Hear It (cracking drums courtesy of my brother-in-law Joel Ellis)
4. Cabin Fever (Thomas triumphs! A classic, says his bandmate Lane)
5. Thank You Honey (Simple but blistering horn parts. Those Dexy’s records you bought me finally paid off, Dad)
6. Nowhere (Another Thomas pop gem. References our train journeys from the city out to Ferntree Gully where we recorded vocals, in an indirect manner…our mate Rusty plays drums)
7. Better Let Go (I shouldn’t pat myself on the back, but, Lane, you’ve come up with another one of them same old ballads again….no, I jest, it really is great)
8. So Long (the Pictures’ fastest song to date, not that I’ve got the BPM counter out or anything)
9. Maisie (country psych-May/Deacon!)
10. To The Top (a tune Luke and I wrote NYE 2003, finally made it to a record!)
11. I’m Safe (formerly I’m Saved, trust me it makes more sense now)
12. The Lion’s Share Of You (Russell Hopkinson once again nails it)
